Passive Voice

Grammar is Not Hard Like Thor’s Hammer

Passive voice is the opposite of Active voice. The active voice focuses on the doer (the actor) of the action (he/she is the person who does the action), meanwhile, the Passive Voice focuses on the process which is performed by the object of the sentence.

Active voice :

  • Andy will kick the ball.

Andy which is the subject is the person/thing that is doing the action/verb

Passive voice :
  • The ball will be kicked by Andy.
The ball is the subject of this sentence. The ball was the something that receive the effect, and the ball was the something that receive the effect of the process. That is why it is called passive voice because the subject is experiencing the effect of the action.
